Removal of fuel pump and fuel-injection fuses. Disconnect the main wire to the spark plugs and coil; remove spark plugs.
- Starting the threaded end of the compression gauge inside a spark plug hole manually.
- Turning the ignition on. Depressing the throttle and cranking the engine four revolutions.
- Marking the pressure reading for every cylinder on the cover of the valve in chalk and later moving to next cylinder.
Some experts pour 1 tsp of engine oil into the plug hole for cylinders having psi below 100 and retest. If the reading jumps, this reveals piston rings are worn, if not, then there may be issue with the valve.
